A nearby peer who expands the friend-group energy beyond the central trio.
A music-driven coming-of-age adventure that will change how you hear summer
Mixtape follows three friends replaying the memory of one final night together. It is a music-driven coming-of-age adventure about friendship, trouble, joy, and the songs that stick to a moment forever.
The experience moves through playable memories rather than a conventional checklist: skating, flying, sneaking out, taking photos, setting off fireworks, playing baseball, and cutting through surreal teenage recollections.
Released on May 7, 2026, Mixtape comes from Beethoven & Dinosaur and Annapurna Interactive, with a soundtrack direction built around post-punk, new wave, alternative rock, synth, soul, and left-field classics.
Three friends at the center, with classmates, locals, and authority figures shaping the memories around them
Stacey Rockford is the emotional center of the story, using music to hold one last night together before graduation changes everything. Her bedroom details, record stacks, and carefully chosen songs make her feel like someone building an identity from liner notes, posters, and private memories.
Cassandra keeps the group honest when the night gets too loud, too fast, or too strange. Her scenes show the tension between confidence and vulnerability, especially when jokes, dares, and awkward bedroom conversations turn into memories the friends cannot easily explain.
Van Slater pushes the final night into motion with bigger risks, louder jokes, and the kind of chaos that only makes sense years later. His character moments connect the party energy to the quieter fear underneath: leaving school, leaving friends, and leaving a version of yourself behind.
These characters sit outside Stacey, Cassandra, and Van's friendship triangle, giving the night its social friction, local texture, and pressure.
A nearby peer who expands the friend-group energy beyond the central trio.
A town-facing presence that helps connect the teenage memories to everyday places.
An adult authority figure who raises the stakes when the final night gets out of hand.
Four pillars that make Mixtape unlike anything you've played before
Move through memory-driven scenes: skating, flying, sneaking out, photographing the world, playing baseball, and setting off fireworks.
The story is built around the bond between three friends and the way songs can pull old conversations, arguments, jokes, and regrets back to the surface.
At key moments, you choose which song plays โ and that choice changes the emotional tone of the scene, the character reactions, and even unlocks different story paths.
During climactic emotional moments, the game shifts into rhythm-based mini-games โ simple, expressive, and perfectly synchronized to the licensed soundtrack.
Mixtape was created by Beethoven & Dinosaur, the studio behind The Artful Escape, and published by Annapurna Interactive, home to Kentucky Route Zero, Stray, and Outer Wilds.
The current fan-site soundtrack reference is based on a 28-track credited list. Storefront descriptions highlight music from artists including DEVO, Roxy Music, Lush, The Smashing Pumpkins, Iggy Pop, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Joy Division, and The Cure.
The story behind Annapurna Interactive, Megan Ellison, and why Mixtape exists
Annapurna Interactive is the games label of Annapurna Pictures, founded by Megan Ellison in 2011. Annapurna Pictures is a film production and financing company behind critically acclaimed movies including Her, Zero Dark Thirty, American Hustle, and Phantom Thread.
Annapurna Interactive launched in 2017, initially publishing What Remains of Edith Finch โ which went on to win BAFTA Game of the Year. Mixtape continues this tradition โ a short, emotionally precise narrative game developed by Beethoven & Dinosaur (the Melbourne studio behind The Artful Escape) and published by Annapurna Interactive in May 2026.
Megan Ellison is the founder of Annapurna Pictures and the driving creative force behind Annapurna Interactive. She is the daughter of Larry Ellison, co-founder and executive chairman of Oracle Corporation, one of the largest technology companies in the world.
